JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Financial Analyst – Accounting will be responsible for full cycle accounting, which includes participating in close activities such as recording journal entries, completing reconciliations and analysis of assigned general ledger (G/L) accounts; as well as identifying and recommending process improvements and ensuring adherence to accounting principles and standards and internal controls.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Participates in accounting close activities, including preparing journal entries, reviewing supporting files for reasonability and accuracy and analysis of assigned G/L accounts.
  2. Monitors monthly accruals of assigned G/L accounts.
  3. Prepares reconciliations of assigned G/L accounts.
  4. Prepares reports for Manager and/or Finance team when requested.
  5. When required, reviews assigned balanced sheet accounts, completed by staff, to ensure accuracy of information prior to submitting to the Manager for review and approval.
  6. Verifies integrity of financial data in accounting system.
  7. Assists staff with the troubleshooting and resolution of issues or problems, when necessary.
  8. Reviews assigned processes to improve efficiencies and to ensure internal controls are being adhered to. Recommends and implements as required.
  9. Supports external reporting by completing consolidated financial statements note disclosure schedules
  10. Liaise with internal and external auditors. Responds to inquiries, information and reports, as requested.
  11. Participates and/or may lead projects, if required.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. Adheres to established policies and procedures.
  13. Makes recommendations on improving established policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of applicable accounting guidelines i.e. US GAAP or IFRS, including FX and consolidation principles
  • Knowledge of accounting systems
  • In-depth knowledge of preparing and analyzing account reconciliation
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to implement solutions
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage varying deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel (e.g. advanced formulas / keyboard shortcuts)
  • Ability to think critically and recommend ideas for improvement on existing established policies and practices

WORK EXPERIENCE – MINIMUM REQUIRED

3 years of related experience

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Finance or Accounting

CERTIFICATIONS DESCRIPTION

One or more accounting designations, such as CPA or CFA required.
