JOB SUMMARY

The Duty and Freight Audit Analyst performs account reconciliations and analysis relating to custom brokerage and freight financial data. This includes accounts reconciliation and analysis of assigned account(s) and ensuring that they are completed on a timely basis. Ensure all journal entries are processed in a timely manner; and adheres to applicable government regulations, accounting principles and company guidelines. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge in excel, excellent organizational and communication skills. 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares reconciliations and analysis of assigned account(s) by specified due date.
  • Prepares and reviews reports to ensure accuracy of financial data in accounting and operational system.
  • Investigates and resolves or escalates issues relating to financial data quality, unusual transactions, outstanding items and reconciliations to immediate supervisor or customs brokerage team(s) when necessary.
  • Book journal entries and verifies integrity of financial data in accounting system.
  • Carries out month end close activities which includes (but not limited to) preparing cheques, re-bills, pre-K84 removal, etc.
  • Communicates and follows-up on any issues and/or reconciling items with applicable departments i.e., AR, AP, P&L to ensure the data is resolved in a timely manner.
  • May generate and import financial reports into Excel spreadsheets.
  • Works with the CFS group on submitting payments to government agency i.e., CBSA.
  • Participates in monthly, quarterly, and annual audits.
  • Assists in identifying and solving system issues as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of GAAP and audit standards.
  • Understanding of balance sheet accounts as well as accrual accounting.
  • Excellent communication skills in both a written and oral context.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage varying deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Coda or similar accounting system.

WORK EXPERIENCE – MINIMUM REQUIRED

2 years of related experience

EDUCATION

Required: Associates Degree or post-secondary education in Finance
